A project ongoing to refurbish an existing pair of 1590 listed cottages in South Cambridgeshire. Planning and listed building consent were obtained for work in the original timber framed part of the house including introduction of a new bespoke timber spiral stair. At the rear of the property a refurbishment of the 1970s extension will bring new life creating a new kitchen / garden room space exposing the high ceilings with new oak timber trusses creating an open well it family space. In terms of sustainability the design for the refurbished section of the house includes high levels of insulation and air-sealing to retain heat and photovoltaic panels to produce renewable energy. Provision of underfloor heating will bring warm even thermal comfort to the house. Revision of the existing layout allowed for new direct access to the rear garden where the owners keep chickens and beehives.
